Influence of Salinity on the Growth and Development of Salmacis sphaeroides Larvae: A Comparative Experimental Study
Considering the current lack of knowledge on the artificial breeding of southern sea urchin species, this study adopts a practical approach based on undergraduate aquaculture knowledge to establish a preliminary artificial cultivation technology for 'Salmacis sphaeroides'. Using 'S. sphaeroides' as the material, the experiment explores the influence of salinity on the growth and development of 'S. sphaeroides' larvae through the induction of sea urchins and the cultivation of larvae in seawater with gradient salinity. Six salinity gradients (20, 24, 28, 32, 36, and 40) were tested, and the results revealed that the optimal salinity range for the growth and development of 'S. sphaeroides' larvae is between 28 and 32.
