The Rise of Depression: An Invisible Killer in Modern Society
In recent years, the prevalence of depression has been on a concerning rise. Words such as 'anxiety' and 'depression' are frequently seen in various media, and the effects of anxiety disorders often lead to frustration and anger, hindering one's ability to concentrate and think clearly, and potentially leading to loss of control (Gressier, et al., 2017; Ionescu, Niciu, Mathews, Richards, & Zarate, 2013). In the midst of emotional turmoil, even the slightest stressors can feel overwhelming, and may lead to suicidal ideation (Koo, Kolves, & De Leo, 2017). The COVID-19 pandemic has only exacerbated this issue, with news of depressed suicides constantly reminding people of the severity of the situation (Iosifyan, Arina, & Nikolaeva, 2023). Depression has become an insidious threat to mental health in modern society (Ramey, et al., 2010; Uliaszek, Hamdullahpur, Amestoy, & Carnovale, 2023).
