Jiang Zemin (Jiāng Zé Mín) was a retired Chinese politician who served as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China from 1989 to 2002, as the President of the People's Republic of China from 1993 to 2003, and as the Chairman of the Central Military Commission from 1989 to 2004. Under his leadership, China experienced significant economic growth and development, as well as political stability. However, his tenure was also marked by human rights abuses and crackdowns on political dissidents, including the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests.
