The Moderating Role of Safety Climate on the Relationship Between Perceived Organizational Support and Safety Behavior
Drawing upon organizational climate theory, this study examines the complex interplay between perceived organizational support, safety climate, and safety behavior. Research suggests that various workplace factors shape employees' perceptions of their work environment and its priorities (Zohar & Hofmann, 2012). Notably, both organizational climate and safety climate are founded on shared employee perceptions (Shea, De Cieri, Vu, & Pettit, 2021). Employees' perceptions of safety climate directly influence their safety behavior. Similarly, perceived organizational support also plays a significant role in shaping these behaviors. However, a critical gap exists in understanding how safety climate moderates the relationship between perceived organizational support and safety behavior. This study posits that safety climate can either enhance or diminish the influence of perceived organizational support on safety behavior. By introducing safety climate as a moderating variable, this study aims to clarify the nuanced relationship between perceived organizational support and safety behavior within the context of an organization's safety climate.
