Public Health Aspirant: From Nursing to Fudan University | My Inspiring Journey

Hello everyone, my name is [Name], and I am a nursing undergraduate student from Bengbu Medical College. I am currently pursuing a degree in Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Fudan University through cross-examination. I have a passion for public health, driven by a desire to make a real difference in the lives of others. This passion was ignited by many experiences during my undergraduate years. I was fortunate to receive a school-level second-class and third-class scholarship, as well as recognition as an outstanding student member, volunteer, and class leader. I also participated in a national-level scientific research project, donated over 1000ml of blood, and passed the English Level Six exam. But it was my volunteer experiences that truly shaped my path. In my first year, I volunteered at a local nursing home, where I witnessed the challenges and resilience of elderly individuals. This experience solidified my desire to work in public health. In my second year, I had the opportunity to visit an elderly care home as part of a volunteer program. It was a humbling experience to see how much these seniors had gone through in their lives, and how much they still had to offer. One particular resident, Ms. Li, caught my attention. She was a former teacher who suffered from dementia, and could often be found sitting quietly in the corner. I made it a point to visit her every week, and slowly but surely, we began to form a bond. I would bring her books to read and talk to her about her life experiences. One day, while I was visiting her, Ms. Li suddenly began to recite a poem from memory. It was a beautiful piece of work, and I was amazed that she could remember it so well. I asked her if she had any other poems to share, and she said that she did. Over the course of the next few weeks, Ms. Li and I worked together to compile a collection of her favorite poems. We would read them aloud to each other, and it was clear that she was enjoying herself. She even began to remember some of the names of her former students. During the pandemic, I continued to volunteer in my community and donated blood. I believe that contributing to the well-being of others is a crucial aspect of public health. Finally, my internship at the Hangzhou Normal University Affiliated Hospital provided invaluable practical experience, further solidifying my commitment to this field. These experiences, coupled with my academic achievements, have prepared me for the challenges and rewards of a career in public health. I am eager to learn from the experts at Fudan University and contribute to the development of innovative solutions to public health challenges.
