Engaging Primary School English Listening & Talking Lesson: Classroom Objects & Location

Objective: To help students understand the words and master the sentence patterns related to the classroom, picture, and window. To encourage students to apply the sentence patterns in their spoken language and practice peer and self-assessment.

Materials Needed: A picture of a classroom, flashcards with classroom items, a whiteboard or chalkboard, markers or chalk, a recording device.

Introduction (5 minutes):

• Greet the students and ask them about their favorite classroom item.
• Show them a picture of a classroom and ask them to identify different items in it.
• Introduce the sentence pattern: 'What's in the classroom? Where is it? It's near the window.'

Presentation (15 minutes):

• Show the flashcards with different classroom items and ask students to repeat their names.
• Point to a specific item and ask students to use the sentence pattern to describe its location, e.g., 'Where is the book? It's on the desk.'
• Use the sentence pattern to describe the location of other items in the classroom and ask students to repeat after you.

Practice (20 minutes):

• Divide the class into pairs and give each pair a picture of a classroom.
• Ask them to take turns asking and answering questions about the items in the picture using the sentence pattern.
• Encourage them to use other sentence patterns they have learned in previous lessons.
• Record their conversations and play them back for the class to review.

Peer Assessment (10 minutes):

• Ask each pair to choose their best conversation to share with the class.
• Have them present their conversation and encourage the class to give feedback on their pronunciation, grammar, and use of sentence patterns.

Self Assessment (5 minutes):

• Ask each student to reflect on their own conversation and identify one thing they did well and one thing they can improve on.
• Write down their reflections on the whiteboard or chalkboard.

Conclusion (5 minutes):

• Summarize the lesson and ask students to share their reflections with the class.
• Encourage them to continue practicing their spoken English using the sentence patterns they have learned.
• Thank the students for their participation and effort.
