Gingival Recession Treatment: A Comparative Study of Acellular Dermal Matrix, Collagen Matrix, and Autogenous Free Gingival Grafting

'Patient inclusion': Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 60 patients with gingival recession were randomly assigned to different groups and underwent surgery according to their group number.

'Specific surgical procedure': A. 'Acellular dermal matrix grafting': After careful evaluation of the surgical site, soft tissue biotype, and gingival width, local anesthesia was administered and a horizontal incision was made along the gingival margin. A partial thickness flap was raised and pushed down towards the root surface, leaving the periosteum and some connective tissue on the bone surface. A trimmed acellular dermal matrix graft was placed on the connective tissue surface and secured with sutures and pressure. The wound length and width were recorded. B. 'Collagen matrix membrane grafting': The surgical procedure was similar to the acellular dermal matrix grafting procedure. C. 'Control group': Autogenous free gingival grafting was performed by harvesting a partial thickness flap from the palate and transplanting it to the recipient site.

'Postoperative care and medication': Patients were instructed to use 0.12% chlorhexidine mouthwash three times a day for one week. Painkillers such as ibuprofen were recommended for pain relief. Antibiotics such as amoxicillin or erythromycin were prescribed for one week.

'Follow-up': Patients were assessed for bleeding, swelling, pain, and aesthetic outcomes at 2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months, 3 months, and 6 months postoperatively. Clinical indicators such as gingival width and thickness were recorded, and 3D intraoral scanning was performed to evaluate aesthetic outcomes.
