Autophagy and Oral Tissue Regeneration: A Comprehensive Review
This review focuses on the role of autophagy in regulating stem cells and promoting oral tissue regeneration. We explore the ways in which autophagy helps oral stem cells withstand survival stress and provide an overview of the autophagy machinery in eukaryotic cells. Additionally, we examine the molecular mechanisms involved in autophagy-regulated oral tissue regeneration and discuss how small molecule drugs, biomaterials, exosomes/RNAs, and other treatments can be used to regulate autophagy. Finally, we offer new perspectives on autophagy manipulation and oral tissue regeneration.
Although we have gained some understanding of how autophagy contributes to oral tissue regeneration, the exact mechanisms remain unclear. Further mechanistic studies are needed for therapeutic purposes. This review provides novel insights into human tissue regeneration and may prove useful in further autophagy research on oral tissue and other types of tissue regeneration.
