Autophagy's Crucial Role in Oral Tissue Regeneration: A Systematic Review
The oral cavity is a unique environment that undergoes constant remodeling and regeneration, making autophagy a crucial process in oral tissue regeneration. Moreover, the oral cavity is home to numerous bacterial colonizers, and many oral diseases stem from bacterial infections and subsequent immune responses [14]. Studies have shown that autophagy plays a significant role in controlling infectious agents, limiting inflammatory pathologies, regulating myeloid/lymphoid cell differentiation, and coordinating multicellular immunity [14]. Given its role in repairing damaged tissue, it is clear that autophagy is closely linked with oral tissue regeneration. While several studies have explored the role of autophagy in oral diseases and tissue regeneration, there has been no systematic review on the topic.
