California Bans New Gasoline Cars by 2035: A Journal Entry on Climate Action

Governor Gavin Newsom of California has ordered a ban on the sale of new gasoline-powered cars in the state by 2035. This move is part of California's broader efforts to combat climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The transportation sector contributes to more than half of California's carbon pollution, 80 percent of smog-forming pollution, and 95 percent of toxic diesel emissions. At the same time, people living in the Los Angeles Basin and Central Valley are exposed to some of the most polluted and harmful air in the United States.
