Women's Rights Protection: A Vital Aspect of China's Modernization
Ladies and gentlemen,
When we talk about China's modernization, we often focus on its material and cultural aspects. However, we must not overlook the importance of spiritual and cultural development. In this context, the issue of women's rights protection becomes a crucial topic that cannot be ignored on our path towards modernization.
During my summer vacation, I witnessed a distressing incident on the streets—a man brutally beating a woman. Without hesitation, I rushed forward and immediately called the police. As I saw the young woman in her twenties, tears streaming down her face as she clutched her daughter, I couldn't help but cry too. My tears were for her, for all women who suffer similar persecution, and for the persisting gender inequalities that persist in our society today.
In modern society, the progress of women's status serves as a barometer of social civilization. The law plays a vital role in safeguarding women's rights and interests. While the awareness of women's legal rights has been growing, the avenues available for protecting these rights remain limited. Among the many forms of women's rights protection, domestic violence stands out as an issue that demands our immediate attention. Shockingly, in China, a woman is abused every 7.4 seconds, and globally, a woman is beaten every 18 seconds.
These alarming statistics have compelled me to pay attention to the violent incidents that have already occurred, to intervene in ongoing violent situations, and to worry about those that may happen in the future. I feel an unprecedented sense of duty towards the future, having personally experienced the impact my actions can have in assisting persecuted women, even if it is through small efforts. China's education instills in us the courage and inspiration to change the world. In the future, I aspire to become a lawyer through the judicial examination, establishing a law firm dedicated to serving women's rights. When vulnerable women seek our help, I want to be there, tightly holding their hands, providing guidance and support. I am committed to raising awareness about women's rights through social media, disseminating knowledge about legal protections, and doing everything in my power to help persecuted women escape their troubles.
When I finally left the scene after reporting the incident, a friend asked if I was afraid. Of course, I was afraid. The sister who was beaten was afraid too, as are millions of other persecuted women. However, today there is one of me, but tomorrow there will be thousands more. Mr. Bird, the representative of the United Nations Population Fund in China, once said that while men may be the main perpetrators of violence against women, they should also be the main agents of change. We all bear the responsibility to put an end to domestic violence. Our slogan should evolve from 'girls helping girls' to 'children helping girls,' and ultimately, 'everyone helping girls.' Each of us must strive for the liberation of Chinese women, the construction of Chinese humanism, and the liberation of minds across the globe.
In conclusion, I thank you all for your attention. Let us join hands in this critical cause, working together towards a future where women's rights are fully protected and respected.
Thank you.
