On April 27, 2023, our surveyor arrived at the #4 terminal of Huanghua port to investigate damage to the No. 9 cargo hold of a vessel. After communication with the Master, we gathered the following information:

  1. Around 23:00hrs on April 26, during cargo discharging from the No. 9 cargo hold, a violent operation by the stevedore caused the grab to impact the tanktop, damaging the steel plate and allowing water ingress from WBT No. 5 port side.

  2. The ABS surveyor inspected the damaged condition on the morning of April 27, determining the repair area, method, and materials. They subsequently issued a damage report.

  3. Our surveyor joined the C/O at around 18:30hrs to inspect the No. 9 cargo hold. The damage included deformation and tearing on the tanktop's surface, deformation of the tanktop's back, and paint detachment. The damaged steel plate measured 1260mm in length, 1000mm in width, and 23.5mm in thickness.

  4. The repair team was scheduled to arrive at 22:00hrs on April 27, but due to MSA restrictions on fireworks at night, the repair work was delayed until the morning of April 28. The repair work is expected to be completed by the afternoon of the same day. After completion, the ABS surveyor will conduct an inspection and issue a report.

  5. Cargo discharging is expected to be completed around 24:00hrs on April 27, and the estimated time of departure (ETD) is not yet confirmed.
