Australian Exercise Participation by Age and Gender in 2005
The bar graph compares the proportion of Australians who did not participate in any exercise in the year 2005. Overall, the numbers showed fluctuating increases in both genders with age.
At the age of 18-24, the percentage of females without exercise was roughly 8% higher than males, making up 32% versus 24%, respectively. However, as age increased, the percentage of females without exercise slowly declined while that of males showed a clear rise. By the beginning of the fourth decade, the numbers for both genders reached a similar value of around 33%.
In contrast, among adults aged 45 to 64, females tended to exercise more than males, with the gap becoming wider than 8% by middle age.
Interestingly, among elderly individuals, more than half of both males and females did not engage in exercise, with the proportion of women higher than men, accounting for 58% and 52% respectively.
In summary, before the age of 64 years old, two-thirds of people participated in sports, while this dropped to only half after 65.
