G7 Countries: A Guide to the Group of Seven

The G7 (Group of Seven) is an alliance of seven of the world's most advanced economies: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Established in 1975 as the G6, the group expanded with Canada's inclusion in 1976. Its primary aim is to foster cooperation and coordination on critical global issues.

The G7's influence on the global stage is substantial. Its member countries collectively account for over 60% of global net wealth and approximately 40% of the world's GDP. This economic powerhouse convenes annually for a summit hosted by a rotating member nation. During these summits, leaders engage in discussions and policy alignment on pressing matters such as international trade, global security, and climate change.

While the G7 plays a significant role in shaping global affairs, it has faced criticism for its limited membership. Critics argue that the group lacks representation from developing economies and does not fully reflect the diversity of perspectives in the international community.
