Regarding the reasons for the mold growth on the goods, based on our inspection, we have the following opinions for reference. According to the ventilation records of the goods, we noticed that the temperature of the goods was about 33 degrees Celsius when they were loaded into the cargo hold, and the crew timely opened the ventilation ports according to the 3-degree rule during the voyage. After arriving at the anchorage, the crew found that there was a lot of condensation in the cargo hold, so they opened the hatch for ventilation. At that time, the environmental temperature was only a little over ten degrees Celsius, which was more than 20 degrees Celsius lower than the temperature of the goods. Due to the hatch being fully opened, the ventilation rate was fast, which caused the surface of the goods to quickly dry and cool down. The warm and humid air flow produced by the bottom layer of the goods would quickly condense when it encountered the low-temperature surface of the goods, causing the goods below the surface to become extremely humid and thus causing rapid microbial growth and mold growth. The rapid growth of microorganisms, in turn, would block the gaps between the soybeans, causing the warm and humid air flow to be blocked in the moldy layer, further exacerbating the mold growth. This process is extremely fast. We once found that the goods on a ship had mold growth in less than 20 hours. Ultimately, this phenomenon is due to the high moisture content of the goods themselves. If the crew did not open the hatch, the surface of the goods would still mold due to the phenomenon of 'cargo sweat'.
