Comparative Study on Business Models of Food Enterprises: Taking Genki Group and Taoli Bread as Examples
Abstract: China's baking industry exhibits diverse business formats and commercial models, with the 'central factory + wholesale distribution' model and chain model emerging as the most prominent. This study analyzes the macro environment of China's baking industry using the PEST model. Subsequently, it compares and contrasts the two aforementioned business models by examining the cases of Taoli Bread and Genki Group. Leveraging the business model canvas theory, we identify significant differences in the four value layers and nine specific elements between these models. The fundamental distinction lies in their core focus: Taoli Bread emphasizes 'low cost' and aims to achieve economies of scale, while Genki Group prioritizes 'differentiation' to establish a unique competitive advantage. Based on this analysis, the study proposes three key recommendations for food enterprises: making practical choices, focusing on spiritual connotation, and ensuring effective coordination across all operational links. This research aims to provide valuable insights and guidance for food companies seeking to optimize their business models.
Keywords: business model, Genki Group, Taoli Bread, 'central factory + wholesale distribution' model, chain operation model.
