'Zaru' means 'not' or 'without', often used when something is lacking or absent, or to express a negative condition or state of being. This grammar pattern is common in written Japanese, particularly in formal or literary contexts.

For example, in the sentence '政治の世界には、知られざる真実がたくさんある。' (Seiji no sekai ni wa, shirarezaru shinjitsu ga takusan aru.), the phrase '知られざる' (shirarezaru) modifies the noun '真実' (shinjitsu) and means 'unknown' or 'unheard of'.
