Job Summary:
The Patent Manager will be responsible for coordinating and managing the patent portfolio of the organization. They will provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders on patent-related matters and work with outside counsel to manage the prosecution of patent applications. Additionally, the Patent Manager will be responsible for conducting patent searches and monitoring competitors' patent activities to identify potential infringement risks.
Key Responsibilities:
• Manage the patent portfolio of the organization, including patent applications, issued patents, and pending patents
• Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders on patent-related matters, including patentability, infringement, and licensing
• Work with outside counsel to manage the prosecution of patent applications, including drafting and filing patent applications, responding to office actions, and managing the patent docket
• Conduct patent searches to identify potential infringement risks and advise internal stakeholders on the results of the search
• Monitor competitors' patent activities to identify potential infringement risks and advise internal stakeholders on the risks
• Work with internal stakeholders to identify and prioritize patent opportunities based on business needs and market trends
• Develop and maintain relationships with outside counsel and patent offices to ensure efficient and effective management of the patent portfolio
• Provide regular reports to senior management on the status of the patent portfolio and patent-related activities
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in a technical field, such as engineering or science
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in patent prosecution, preferably with a law firm or in-house legal department
• Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office
• Strong understanding of patent law and regulations
• Excellent analytical and research skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Experience managing outside counsel and patent budgets
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience with patent databases, such as PatentAdvisor and PatentEagle, preferred
