Electrochromic (EC) devices are a class of materials that can change their optical properties in response to an applied electric field. They have a wide range of applications, including smart windows, displays, and sensors. In recent years, the development of new EC materials with enhanced performance has attracted significant attention.

Tungsten oxide (WO3) is a well-known EC material that has been extensively studied due to its excellent EC properties, including high optical contrast, fast switching speed, and long-term stability. However, its coloration efficiency, which determines the amount of coloration achieved per unit of electrical charge, is relatively low.

To overcome this limitation, researchers have explored the combination of WO3 with other materials to form hybrid EC systems. One promising approach is to incorporate WO3 into Prussian blue (PB), a well-known electrochromic material. PB is a type of metal-organic framework that exhibits reversible redox chemistry, making it an ideal candidate for use in EC devices.

In this study, we used sodium citrate as a complexing agent to synthesize WO3-PB hybrid EC materials via a chemical bath deposition method. Sodium citrate has been shown to improve the homogeneity and stability of WO3 films by reducing the particle size and preventing agglomeration.

The resulting WO3-PB hybrid films exhibited enhanced coloration efficiency and improved optical contrast compared to pure WO3 films. The electrochemical behavior of the films was investigated using cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry. The films also exhibited good long-term stability, indicating their potential for use in practical applications.

The aim of this study was to develop a novel WO3-PB hybrid EC material with improved performance for use in smart windows and other applications. This paper presents the synthesis, characterization, and electrochemical behavior of the WO3-PB hybrid films, as well as their potential applications in EC devices.
