What is the Act of Supremacy
The Act of Supremacy is the English parliamentary act passed in 1534, which declared King Henry VIII as the supreme head of the Church of England, thereby separating the English Church from the authority of the Pope in Rome. This allowed Henry VIII to dissolve the monasteries and seize their wealth and property, as well as to divorce his first wife Catherine of Aragon and marry Anne Boleyn. The Act of Supremacy marked the beginning of the English Reformation and the establishment of the Church of England as a separate entity from the Roman Catholic Church
