Resource-based cities primarily rely on mineral resources, with 53.4% being mineral, petroleum, and coal cities, which contributed to their initial economic development. However, the overexploitation and inefficient mining of mineral resources have resulted in the underutilization of urban resources and aggravated soil pollution. Hence, the need for resource-based UGS construction is more pressing than in other cities. In some resource-based cities such as Huangshi, Tangshan, Xuzhou, and Ordos, ecological restoration and green restoration actions are being implemented, transforming mining subsidence areas into ecological wetlands, open-pit mining reclamation into mining parks, and garbage dumps into green areas.
