When I was little, one of my uncles was inflicted by Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). Witnessing the devastating impact it had on him and our family, I became determined to find a cure for this disorder. Additionally, working at our family business, I often saw customers who were also suffering from AUD, further fueling my desire to make a difference in their lives.

In pursuit of my goal, I enrolled in a top 10 university in China. While I excelled academically and participated in various activities, I still felt a void. It was during my participation in the "National College Student Innovation Competition" that I discovered my passion for research. Leading a team and conducting an innovative scientific research project under the guidance of a college professor not only won us first place but also instilled in me the confidence and determination to pursue research further.

Driven by this newfound passion, I decided to apply for a Ph.D. program in the United States, even without a master's degree. This decision was met with skepticism, as no one in my major had attempted such a path in the past five years. However, I remained resilient and determined to follow my dreams.

While pursuing my Ph.D., I encountered challenges that tested my resilience. In my first program, my mentor's sudden resignation left me with limited time to secure a new sponsor or face the possibility of returning to China. Fortunately, I crossed paths with my current mentor, who not only provided unwavering support but also shared my passion for research.

Currently, my Ph.D. project focuses on developing a pig model of AUD based on human diagnostic criteria. This model will play a crucial role in screening new therapeutics for the disorder. Working tirelessly with my mentor, we have made significant progress in developing and evaluating the model. As I come closer to achieving this project, my determination to help those suffering from diseases, particularly AUD, grows stronger.

Receiving this scholarship would not only enable me to further pursue my goal of finding a cure for AUD but also provide me with the opportunity to develop more effective skills in helping others. I am grateful for the chance to make a difference in the lives of those affected by this disorder and look forward to contributing to the field of research in alcohol use disorder
