Insufficient Lime Coating in Cargo Hold: Discrepancies in Pre-Loading Inspection
During a recent inspection of a cargo hold, discrepancies were found regarding the application of a lime coating. The crew claimed to have applied a lime coating to the cargo hold plating/tanktop before loading. However, our inspection revealed only white traces resembling lime coating on the bulkhead/plating, indicating insufficient thickness. Furthermore, the pre-loading inspection report, which had been submitted to the cargo underwriter surveyor prior to our attendance, clearly indicated that there was no lime whitewash present in the cargo holds. This discrepancy raises concerns about the adequacy of the lime coating application and its effectiveness in protecting the cargo hold. The report highlights the importance of thorough pre-loading inspections and the need for accurate documentation of all relevant procedures.
