Container Cargo Destroyed in January, Consignee's Late Notification

The consignee informed us that the container cargo was destroyed in January this year, but they did not notify us at the time. The shipper is unsure if they will claim compensation from the carrier as they are in contact with the insurer and shipper for subsequent cargo.
