Lime Whitewash Application Inadequate: Cargo Hold Inspection Discrepancies

This report highlights inconsistencies regarding the application of lime whitewash in the cargo hold. The crew indicated that they had applied a lime whitewash to the cargo hold wall/tanktop before loading. However, our inspection revealed white traces on the cargo hold wall resembling a lime coating, but the thickness appeared insufficient based on our experience. Furthermore, the cargo hold inspection report conducted by the shipper (exportadora de sal, S.A. de C.V.) prior to loading, which was submitted to the cargo underwriter surveyor before our arrival, did not mention the presence of a lime whitewash. This discrepancy raises concerns about the adequacy of the whitewash application and its impact on cargo protection.
