MSA Inquiry on Deck Operations of MV ECO Vessel: Aug 03, 2023

After the MSA attended on board, the officers proceeded to question the captain and the chief mate regarding the operations of the deck department for the MV ECO vessel at 1450hrs on Aug 03, 2023, and specifically asked about any deck flushing operations that took place.

The officers were informed that the crew had washed the hatch covers, resulting in water flowing into the cargo hold. It was clarified that the water discharged from the stern of the ship was cooling water from the cable crane.

The officers then inquired about the status of the cargo hatch cover during the ship's voyage at 1450hrs the previous day. They were informed that the hatch cover was partially open, and the captain had conducted a self-inspection before sailing.

Following the inquiry, the MSA officer proceeded to conduct a simple visual inspection on the deck before leaving.
