An Analysis of the Widening Development Gap Between First-Tier and Second-Tier Cities in China Post-2015

This study investigates the developmental trends observed in new first-tier and second-tier cities within China throughout the designated study period. Findings indicate a notable surge in the advancement of both city tiers. However, a distinct acceleration in the growth trajectory has been observed in the period following 2015, particularly in comparison to the preceding years. Furthermore, the analysis reveals a discernible widening of the developmental gap between these two city categories, particularly post-2015. This suggests that while both tiers have experienced growth, the pace of development in first-tier cities has significantly outstripped that of second-tier cities in recent years.
