choice to end slavery and preserve our Union, and we have worked to extend the blessings of freedom and opportunity to all of our citizens. But while the progress we have made has been significant, we know there is more work to do.
Together, we must address the challenges of our time – from the threat of climate change to the necessity of reforming our immigration system; from the need to provide every child with a quality education to the imperative of ensuring equal pay for equal work; from the imperative of protecting our nation from those who would do us harm to the importance of promoting peace and security around the world.
As we face these challenges, we must also remember that we are all in this together. We must reject the notion that some of us are more deserving of opportunity and security than others. We must recognize that our individual freedoms and our collective prosperity are deeply interconnected, and that we cannot succeed as a nation unless we work together.
So let us work to build a future that is worthy of our children and grandchildren – a future that is defined by opportunity and prosperity, by justice and equality, and by a commitment to the common good. Let us come together as Americans, united in purpose and resolve, to meet the challenges of our time and to fulfill the promise of our democracy. Thank you
