Chapter 5 of the English Shurangama SutraChapter 5Ananda said to the Buddha "Bhagavan although Tathagata has explained this second absolute as I now regard someone who wants to untie a knot if he
ctive land, all appeared in the great assembly. The Buddha then said to Ananda and the assembly, "Good men, listen carefully, I will now explain to you the knots in your body and mind and how to untie them. The knots are the various afflictions that have bound you in the cycle of birth and death since beginningless time. These afflictions include ignorance, desire, anger, arrogance, doubt, and wrong views. These knots are rooted in the grasping at self and phenomena as being inherently existent. This grasping is the root of all suffering.
To untie these knots, one must cultivate the wisdom of non-duality and the insight into the true nature of all phenomena. This wisdom is the wisdom that realizes the emptiness of all phenomena, the lack of inherent existence. With this wisdom, one can cut through the root of all afflictions and arrive at liberation.
To cultivate this wisdom, one must first practice the Four Noble Truths. One must recognize the truth of suffering, the truth of the origin of suffering, the truth of the cessation of suffering, and the truth of the path leading to the cessation of suffering. One must also practice the Six Paramitas, which are generosity, morality, patience, diligence, concentration, and wisdom. These paramitas are the practices that lead to the perfection of wisdom and the attainment of enlightenment.
Good men, these teachings are the most profound and highest of all teachings. They are the teachings that lead to the ultimate goal of liberation and enlightenment. Those who hear and practice these teachings will be free from all sufferings and attain the highest state of bliss and wisdom. Therefore, I urge you to diligently practice these teachings and share them with others, so that all beings may attain liberation and enlightenment."
After the Buddha finished speaking, Ananda and the assembly were filled with great joy and gratitude. They made full prostrations and expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the Buddha's teachings. From that day on, they diligently practiced the teachings and shared them with others, spreading the light of wisdom and compassion throughout the world
