In "Dinosaurs Before Dark," the first book in the Magic Tree House series, siblings Jack and Annie discover a mysterious tree house in the woods near their home. Inside the tree house, they find a magical book that allows them to travel through time and space.

Excited by the possibilities, Jack and Annie open the book and wish to visit the time of the dinosaurs. Suddenly, the tree house starts to spin and they find themselves transported back in time to a prehistoric world.

As they explore the prehistoric landscape, Jack and Annie encounter a variety of dinosaurs, including a Triceratops and a Tyrannosaurus Rex. They also meet a friendly Pteranodon named Henry, who helps them navigate the dangerous terrain.

But their adventure takes a dangerous turn when they encounter a pack of Velociraptors, who chase them through the jungle. Fortunately, Henry is able to fly them to safety just in time.

As the sun begins to set, Jack and Annie realize that they need to return to the tree house and return home. They bid farewell to Henry and make their way back to the tree house, where they find themselves back in their own time and place.
