d the international situation and discussed their respective foreign policies. They recognized that the normalization of relations between the two countries would contribute to the relaxation of tensions in Asia and the world. 6.The two sides agreed to the following:
- The United States acknowledges that all Chinese on either side of the Taiwan Strait maintain there is but one China and that Taiwan is a part of China. The United States government does not challenge that position.
- Both sides declare they will establish liaison offices in each other's capitals.
- The United States will withdraw all its military personnel and military installations from Taiwan.

7.Both sides pledged to observe the principles of respect for each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-aggression against each other, non-interference in each other's internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, and peaceful coexistence.

1.The United States of America recognizes the Government of the People's Republic of China as the sole legal government of China. Within this context, the people of the United States will maintain cultural, commercial, and other unofficial relations with the people of Taiwan.

3.The United States and the People's Republic of China have agreed to establish diplomatic relations as of January 1, 1979.
4.The two sides have agreed to conduct their relations on the basis of the principles of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-interference in each other's internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, and peaceful coexistence.
5.The United States of America and the People's Republic of China agree to exchange ambassadors and establish embassies on a reciprocal basis in each other's capitals after the entry into force of this communique.
