In recent years, with the acceleration of urbanization and the continuous increase of urban traffic density, problems such as traffic congestion and traffic accidents have become increasingly prominent, posing great safety risks and economic losses to urban transportation. This paper is based on FPGA technology, and studies the traditional four-quadrant traffic controller. Using the CycloneII FPGA chip as the core and EP1C3T144C8N as the configuration chip, the hardware circuit design of the FPGA-based traffic signal controller is constructed by expanding the motherboard circuit and peripheral circuits. At the same time, the programmable system on the FPGA chip is analyzed and studied, and the control algorithm of the traffic signal controller is designed. Verilog HDL hardware description language is used to design the various control modes of traffic signals in a modular manner. The design is compiled and simulated on the QuartusII integrated development platform and finally downloaded to the FPGA chip for verification.
Compared with the traditional four-quadrant operation of the traffic controller, this design adds manual control, night mode, emergency mode, and intelligent mode based on the vehicle flow detection control system to cope with emergency situations under different conditions.
