Ren and li, constantly expounded by Confucius along with yi (righteousness) and zhi (wisdom), form the kernel of Confucianism. In later days, ren, yi, li, zhi, with the addition of xin (trustworthiness and reliability), became the Five Constant Virtues of Confucianism.
