This article aims to study the translation of humor in the American sitcom "Friends" from the perspective of association theory. As a popular form of art, humor is the lifeblood of "Friends", a sitcom that relies on various humorous devices to make people laugh. However, its humor reflects the meaning of life in a thought-provoking way. In recent years, the study of humor in "Friends" has received much attention, but few have explored it from the perspective of association theory. Since the publication of "Relevance: Communication and Cognition" by Sperber and Wilson, association theory has attracted great attention and interest in the field of linguistics. Therefore, this article aims to explore the translation of humor in "Friends" from the perspective of association theory. The text first introduces the definition, principles, and development of association theory, then introduces the definition, function, and classification of humor, such as universal humor, cultural humor, and linguistic humor. Finally, it introduces the application of association theory in the translation of humor in "Friends", analyzing the translation methods of humor in "Friends", such as literal translation, annotation, adaptation, addition, deletion, and free translation. This study uses the framework of association theory to analyze the translation of humor in "Friends", with the hope of conveying the cultural and humorous meanings of English humor to the real world
