Rare Case Report: Carotid Artery Plaque Rupture Leading to FFT Detected on Ultrasound
Correction: Stroke is the second leading cause of death worldwide (1) and a common neurological emergency. Stenosis of the extracranial segment of the internal carotid artery plaque accounts for approximately 15-20% of strokes (2). Most ischemic strokes are caused by the rupture of vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques with fibrous caps in the carotid artery, leading to embolism (3-5). The occurrence of FFT resulting from the rupture of carotid artery plaque is rare, and its appearance on ultrasound imaging is even rarer. Therefore, we are presenting this case.
