United States Electoral College: How Many Electors Are There?
The total number of electors in the United States Electoral College is currently '538'.
The Electoral College is a body of electors established by the United States Constitution, constituted every four years for the sole purpose of electing the president and vice president of the United States. Each state is allocated a number of electors equal to the number of seats it has in the U.S. House of Representatives plus its two senators. The District of Columbia is also allocated three electors, as if it were a state. This totals '538' electors.
The candidate who receives a majority of the electoral votes (at least '270' out of '538') wins the presidential election. If no candidate receives a majority, the election is decided by the House of Representatives.
