Sterntube Dismantle and Repair Update - [Vessel Name] - July 29, 2023

Further to the matter, we would like to provide an update with the following information:

1. Our surveyor attended the workshop in the shipyard at 0800hrs on July 29, 2023, and the sterntube dismantling was conducted and completed on the same day. During this process, our surveyor thoroughly inspected each part of the sterntube and made the following observations:

2. After disassembling on July 29th, in addition to the previously mentioned blade bending and dents on July 28th, we discovered noticeable scratches on the contact surface between the blade root and the hub. As a result, the blades were sent to the mechanical workshop for repair.

3. During and after the dismantling of the sterntube, we noted scratches on two sleeves due to conventional wear and tear. One sleeve was transferred to the mechanical workshop in the shipyard for repair, while the other one was replaced.

4. The bearing house, crosshead piston, sliding blocks, oil tube, and vertical shaft oil seal were observed to be in a dark color. According to the manufacturer's advice, this dark color may be a result of exposure to sea water.

5. Some rust was observed on the feed ring and gear case, which may have been caused by exposure to sea water.

6. The parts of the sterntube that were potentially affected by sea water (as mentioned in points 4 and 5) were cleaned with thinner, following the same procedure as the other parts of the sterntube. Based on the information provided by the manufacturer and our experience, we believe that this cleaning process will not affect the safe use of the bow thruster.

7. A dye penetrant test (DNT) was conducted on July 29, and the results showed no signs of leakage.

8. As part of the repair process, the following spare parts will be renewed: sliding piece, one sleeve, O-rings, gasket, back up ring, oil seal, four sliding blocks, locking plate, rung spacer, locking wires, spacer ring, plugs, shim, and seven sleeves.

9. We regret to inform you that the necessary documents have still not been provided at this stage.

10. The assembly of the sterntube is scheduled to take place on July 30, 2023. If all goes according to plan, the dry-docking of the vessel will be completed by August 4.

We will prioritize the preparation of the survey report and provide it to you as soon as possible. Thank you.
