Bilge Well Fuel Spill Clean-up and Remediation

During a recent vessel cleaning and repair period, we maintained constant telephone contact with the onsite workers and crew, providing guidance and suggestions for effective cleaning measures. The crew discovered the bilge well was filled with fuel after cleaning the cargo tank top. We instructed the workers to prioritize the removal of the fuel. Following this, they applied a mixture of oil dispersant to soak the pipes, diligently replacing the contaminated dispersant until no visible oil traces remained. The pipes were then thoroughly rinsed with clean water. All oily water generated during the process was transported ashore for proper treatment. During a boarding inspection conducted on July 27th, the bilge well was found to be clean with no apparent oil traces. The crew also inspected the internal filters within the pipes and confirmed they were free from contamination. However, a small amount of oil staining was observed on the surrounding area of the hatch coaming. Workers continued cleaning this area using a mobile platform. All cleaning work was successfully completed by 0800 on July 28th.
