Rainwater Management and Oil Spill Prevention During Heavy Rainfall Onboard Ship
In anticipation of heavy rainfall, a ship's crew proactively raised concerns about the potential for rainwater to overflow and carry pollutants into the sea. To mitigate this risk, they requested the terminal to deploy oil booms as a precautionary measure. However, the terminal was unable to fulfill this request due to a lack of available resources. Recognizing the importance of addressing these concerns, SPRO promptly conducted two on-board inspections at the behest of the captain and shipowner. These inspections aimed to assess the ship's rainwater management systems and ensure that adequate measures were in place to prevent pollution during the heavy rainfall event.
