Rainwater Management and Oil Spill Prevention Measures During Heavy Rainfall Onboard Ships

Due to the forecast of heavy rainfall, the crew of a ship expressed concerns about the possibility of rainwater overwhelming the vessel's collection system and potentially carrying pollutants into the sea. As a precautionary measure, they requested the terminal to deploy oil booms as a preventative measure against potential oil spills. However, the terminal declined the request, stating that they did not have any oil booms readily available. In response to the crew's concerns and to ensure the vessel's environmental compliance, SPRO conducted two on-board inspections at the behest of the captain and shipowner. The inspections likely focused on verifying the ship's rainwater management systems and overall preparedness to prevent environmental pollution during heavy rainfall.
