Successfully Mitigated Rainwater Contamination Incident at Sea

A potential environmental issue arose when rainwater on the ship's deck became contaminated. While the terminal initially believed the rainwater to be clean and suitable for direct disposal into the sea, we engaged in a comprehensive discussion to emphasize the potential risks involved. Eventually, the terminal agreed to accept the rainwater for proper handling.

Initially, a truck was dispatched to transport the rainwater-filled dumps. However, concerned about the lack of lids on these dumps and the potential for contaminated rainwater spillage during loading, we requested the terminal to provide a tanker instead. This proactive measure ensured the safe transfer of the contaminated water without any further risk of marine pollution.

At 1735hrs, an oil tank vehicle arrived at the ship's side and successfully received all the contaminated rainwater and oily water present on the deck. Simultaneously, our crew took the opportunity to thoroughly clean the deck once more using a high-pressure water gun. The cleaning efforts were highly effective, leaving the deck virtually indistinguishable from its pre-contamination state.
