Marine Oil Spill Response: Successful Rainwater Collection and Deck Cleaning
However, the terminal initially believed that the rainwater was clean and could be directly poured into the sea. After a lengthy discussion, the terminal finally agreed to accept the rainwater. However, they initially sent a truck to transport the rainwater-filled dumps. We had concerns about the possibility of contaminated rainwater spilling into the sea during the loading process, as these dumps did not have lids. In light of this, we requested the terminal to replace the truck with a tanker to receive the rainwater instead. Eventually, the terminal dispatched an oil tank vehicle, which arrived at the ship's side at 1735hrs. All the contaminated rainwater and oily water on the deck were successfully collected. Additionally, the crew utilized a high-pressure water gun to thoroughly clean the deck once again. Following the cleaning process, the deck was restored to its original state and showed no signs of contamination.
