Contaminated Rainwater Safely Disposed After Terminal Intervention
However, the terminal initially believed that the rainwater was clean and suitable for direct disposal into the sea. After a lengthy discussion, we managed to convince the terminal to accept responsibility for the rainwater. However, their initial plan was to transport the rainwater in open dumps using a truck. This raised concerns as the dumps lacked lids, posing a risk of contaminated rainwater spilling into the sea during loading onto the truck. To address this issue, we requested the terminal to replace the truck with a tanker capable of safely receiving the rainwater.
Eventually, the terminal dispatched an oil tank vehicle to the ship's side at 1735hrs. The vehicle successfully received all the contaminated rainwater and oily water on deck. Additionally, the crew utilized a high-pressure water gun to thoroughly clean the deck once again. After the cleaning process, the deck appeared almost identical to its pre-contamination state.
