Cargo Hold Damage Analysis: Evidence Suggests Grab Impact During Discharging

Based on our on-site investigation and information gathered from our crew, we have preliminarily concluded that the damage to the vessel's structure was caused by the grab impacting it during the discharging operation. This conclusion is supported by statements from both the stevedore and crew, as well as the following evidence:

First, the damaged hole is situated on the sloping plate of No. 5 cargo hold. This location is significant because it could only be reached by the grab, indicating its involvement in the incident. Further strengthening this point, the grab was found to be covered with fuel.

Secondly, a close examination of the damaged area revealed obvious concave deformation and scratches. These markings strongly suggest that the damage was caused by physical impact, rather than gradual corrosion. To definitively rule out corrosion as a contributing factor, we are continuing to collect relevant documentation and plan to conduct a thorough inspection.
