Heavy Rain Causes Water Overflow on Ship Carrying Iron Ore Dust

On July 10, 2023, heavy rain started at 10:38 AM, causing a significant amount of rainwater containing iron ore dust to flow into the sea. The high volume of water, with a trim of over 2 meters, resulted in a rush of water at the aft quarter of the vessel. Unfortunately, the ship only had a 9 cm protruding plate on the side as protection against spillage on the deck, which proved insufficient in preventing the water from flowing into the sea immediately. Meanwhile, the crew of the vessel diligently worked to contain the water on deck by using a portable pump to collect it and transfer it to a collecting tank.
