ARAP1 Alternative Promoter-Driven Transcripts Differentially Regulate Cell Migration and Invasion in Hepatocellular Carcinoma
In hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the ARAP1 gene utilizes a selective promoter that regulates the production of two different transcripts: ARAP1-S and ARAP1-L. These transcripts have opposing effects on cell behavior. ARAP1-S acts as a tumor suppressor, inhibiting cell migration and invasion. In contrast, ARAP1-L promotes cell migration and invasion, potentially contributing to tumor progression. This discovery highlights the complexity of gene regulation in cancer and suggests that targeting ARAP1 alternative promoter activity or the specific transcripts could offer novel therapeutic strategies for HCC.
