Gas Bottle Incident: Master's Limited Knowledge on Maintenance and Usage

The Master, having joined the vessel only a month prior to the incident, possessed limited knowledge regarding the maintenance and usage protocols for gas bottles. His understanding was that the acetylene supply had been fully exhausted before the incident occurred. The oxygen bottle, however, had been utilized by the ship's repair team on August 29th during shore-based repairs. Upon completion of the repairs, the oxygen bottle was returned to its designated storage cage located aft of the engine room.
