Gas Bottle Incident: Master's Limited Knowledge Raises Safety Concerns

The Master's limited knowledge of gas bottle procedures has come under scrutiny following a recent incident aboard the vessel. Having joined the ship just one month prior, his understanding of the maintenance and usage of gas bottles was limited. It is understood that the acetylene supply had been fully depleted before the incident occurred. The Oxygen bottle, however, had been utilized by a shore-based repair team as recently as August 29th while the ship was undergoing repairs dockside. Upon completion of their work, the Oxygen bottle was returned to its designated storage cage located at the aft end of the engine room.
