Gas Bottle Storage and Usage Onboard - Incident Review

Two dedicated cages located aft of the engine room were used to store gas bottles. To facilitate easy discharging using the ship's crane, only empty bottles were kept in the midship Mast house.

The Master, having joined the vessel just a month prior, was still unfamiliar with the specific maintenance and usage protocols for the gas bottles. According to his understanding, the acetylene supply had been depleted before the incident occurred.

On August 29th, the repair team made use of the Oxygen bottle while conducting repairs on the ship while it was ashore. Immediately after use, the Oxygen bottle was returned to its designated storage cage aft of the engine room.
