High-Power, High-Beam-Quality Cryogenically-Cooled Tm,Ho:YAP Laser at 2.12μm
In 2013, Li et al. presented a novel approach for achieving high-power, high-beam-quality laser output in the 2μm spectral region. They demonstrated a double-end pumped b-cut Tm,Ho:YAP laser that was cryogenically-cooled to 77K. This cooling technique significantly improves the laser's performance by reducing thermal effects. Using this setup, they achieved a remarkable continuous-wave (cw) output power of 15 W at a wavelength of 2.12μm. Furthermore, the laser exhibited excellent beam quality, with a measured beam quality factor M2 of 1.3. These findings highlight the potential of Tm,Ho:YAP lasers for applications requiring high-power and high-beam-quality output in the 2μm spectral range, such as remote sensing, medical surgery, and materials processing.
